Hurricane a'coming!

Well, Hurricane Gustav is pointed in our direction!!

I am married to a Louisiana Yankee....I define Louisiana Yankee as anyone from North of I-10...

Shae's never had to deal with a hurricane before and this is his first rodeo. And he is ready! He's out in the garage now giving the generator a tune up and lining up his full gas cans next to it. He's got lots of wires that I don't exactly know what for. He's inspected the pantry for approval on the non-perishable groceries (i.e. Poptarts) and batteries that I bought. He filled both vehicles with gas. He's nervous but ready. It's comforting to know that the man I married is such a good protector. He makes me feel safe.

I've had a few rodeos and I'm a little more relaxed than he is. Everybody in South LA has a hurricane story. My most memorable one was Andrew in 1992. The night it came through Laplace was so scary. It felt as though the roof our house would rip off at any minute. The house creaked and groaned all night.. We were out of power for 10 days...my best friend lost her house to a bad tornado..Our high school flooded...we ate LOTS of Poptarts...

Katrina affected so many people and I know alot of people are very anxious to see how this storm will affect them. I'm praying that this storm will be somehow merciful to those people who lost so much just 3 years ago.

Living in North LA for the past 7 years, we haven't had to worry or prepare for a hurricane in a long time. We've always been the place that people evacuated to. We had 16 people at our house for a week when Katrina came..we drank lots of beer and ate lots of Poptarts.

I hope everyone is safe during the storm...I hope that there is minimal damage.....I pray that everyone is okay and preparing....

and has lots of Poptarts...
