When I really need Avery to listen to me, I squat down to her level, put my hands on her shoulders, and look her in the eye before making my request as gently as possible....hoping to make her understand and avoid a terrible-two meltdown. Well, she's started doing it to me! The other night I was sitting next to her on the floor, we were coloring as usual...She asked me to get her favorite pink blanket out of her bed. Well, I guess I didn't get up fast enough so she walked over to me, sat in my lap and faced me...her hands on my shoulders as she looked so seriously into my eyes....
"Mommy, Avery needs pink blanket. Mommy go get it. In Avery's bed. Mommy go, Peeze(please)!!!!"
Then she sat there for a minute and just nodded her head at me..waiting for me to get up and fetch her blanket...Which I did. And then she looked up and me, and said
"Thank you, Mommy..good girl!"
I usually tell her "good girl" when she does something good, so maybe she figured I needed to hear that I was being a good girl!
