I used to be one of those mothers who bragged about how good of a sleeper Avery was. Especially when she was a baby..."Oh, Avery's been sleeping through the night since she's 2 months old" I'd brag. I'm sure some other parents of newborns that I'd brag to wanted to punch me in the face....but bragging aside, she's been a excellent sleeper....that is, until recently...
It all started about 3 weeks ago when she had bronchitis and was taking breathing treatments....Allbuterol, the medicine in the breathing treatments can trigger nervousness, sleeplessness, and NIGHTMARES in children...so that explained why she came screaming in our bedroom at 2am, her entire body shaking..."Mommy, there is a TIGER in my bed and he's trying to eat me!"
And every night since then, bedtime is an ordeal. We have to leave the light on...and her bedroom door open....and the light on in the hallway....She'll fall asleep in her bed, but wake up a few hours later in tears, trying to get in our bed..
Anybody have any suggestions as to dealing with nightmares? We've even gone so far as to label a bottle of Febreeze as "Tiger B Gone" and spray Avery's room, telling her that this will keep all the tigers out....that actually seemed to ease her mind a good bit...
I feel like I have a newborn again....pass me some espresso..and shut my office door so I can take a nap....
